About Us
Building Science is a field of study that focuses on the technical performance of buildings, building materials, and building systems. This broad discipline includes elements of construction technology, material science, architecture, meteorology, sustainable building, automation and controls, and heat and mass transport physics. At IIIT Hyderabad, the Center for IT in Building Science (CBS) focuses on effectively using Information Technology (IT) for sustainable buildings. CBS performs the following activities to promote sustainable buildings in India:
- Sustainable Buildings Research
- Academic Programs
- Training and capacity building
- Consulting
Current research projects:
- Residential Building Energy Demand Reduction in India (RESIDE) funded by the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and EPSRC and ESRC
- Development and performance analysis of double pane semi-transparent solar photovoltaic window/facade system funded by the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST).
State of the art labs are available for Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD), Advance Lighting, and Daylight controls.
